Worship with us this Sunday
We are a union of two congregations – previously St Andrew’s Erskine Church and Townhill & Kingseat Church, aiming to strengthen everyday faith for everyday people.
Message from the Minister
Lent….
Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. Lent recalls the events leading up to and including Jesus’ crucifixion by Rome. “Lent” is derived from an old English word meaning ‘lengthen’. Lent is observed in spring, when the days begin to get longer.
Jesus was once “tempted” in the desert to give up His mission as the Saviour to the world. We are tempted every day to give up our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Life is like a big puzzle, and we only see one piece, but one day we will see the whole picture as God intended it to be. We need to persevere and keep our faith, always remembering that although nothing makes sense now and we are puzzled by all the things we must endure and suffer through, ONE day we will see God face to face. We have to remember this Lent that we share in the suffering, redemption, and glory of Christ because we belong to Him in life and death through our faith alone (see Romans 5:3;8:17;1 Peter 4:12).
May we walk in the footsteps of Christ on the way to His resurrection glory!
With every blessing,
André
